The old city and its architecture have largely been left intact since the 13th century and the largely unspoiled Old Town is now considered an UNESCO World Heritage Site. December 1-4 (Sat-Tues) Ubud, Bali, Indonesia-$1,195.00 – 4 day workshop with "meet and greet" evening of Friday, November 30th at 7pm
Ubud is located in the central uplands area of Bali, Indonesia. Visitors typically fly into Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) located on the southern tip of the island. The trip from the airport to Ubud takes 1-1.5 hours by car, depending on traffic conditions.
Four full days exploring Ubud, a town in central Bali, and it is regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. It is famous as an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages seems to consist of artists' workshops and galleries. There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and a general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and climate of the place. Rice terraces and paddies, temples, breathtaking landscapes and more, we will capture the atmosphere which many have proclaimed "is heaven on earth."
- Meet & greet Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 PM in the hotel lobby of the Kamandalu Resort and Spa.
Workshop conducted Saturday-Tuesday, December 1-4.
- Travel tips:
- Most visitors arrive in Bali and use the Visa On Arrival (VOA) service which will provide you with a 30 day tourist visa. Check the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (http://www.deplu.go.id/Pages/ServiceD...) for the list of eligible countries – as of June 2011 there are 52 eligible countries, but these can change every year or so. As you come down the escalators at Ngurah Airport, look for the VOA cashiers to the left side of the immigration hall. Purchase your visa for US$25 before you report to the immigration officer as he will need the receipt before he can stamp your passport. Other major currencies besides USD are also accepted for the VOA fee, and they will always give you any change in the local currency, rupiah.
- All hotels in Ubud – even the smallest guesthouse – will generally be happy to arrange for a driver to pick you up at the Ngurah Airport. Pick up by hotel-owned cars will usually come at a cost of US/A$40-$50, and pick up by a freelance driver (with their own cars) that the hotel arranges will usually be less expensive. Alternatively, look in Trip Advisor's Ubud: Taxis and Rental Cars and arrange for one of the drivers listed there to meet you at the airport – in June 2011 the rate for an airport pick up/drop off from Ubud is around Rp. 250,000. After a long international trip, it can be very nice to see a driver with your name on a sign and know that your next stop with be the hotel check-in desk.
- There are NO shuttle bus services from the airport to Ubud (or to any of the hotel areas).
